Consistency
It's been a while since I posted anything. It's not that I'm too busy, just lazy. Anyway, I thought I'd share something I saw on Monday. The wife and I were driving back to George West from Corpus Christi on I 37. We had been to the hospital to visit a church member and to pick some flooring for the redo on our church preschool floor. We're doing some improvements for our church centennial next spring.
So, we are driving along doing a little over 75mph (they say confession is good for the soul) when a van passes us. I noticed that there was a big yellow sticker on the rear door. I think it was put there by the company he worked for. It said something like 'this van will not exceed 65 mph to help keep our roads safe.' Beneath it was one of those how am I driving signs. Well he was going so fast I couldn't get that number. I was barely able to read the first sign. He had to be doing around 85.
It struck me he was not doing the very thing he was supposed to be doing, driving safe. But then aren't we all guilty of that. We profess to believe one thing and turn around and do the opposite, denying what we say we believe. The word for that is inconsistency or as some would say hypocrisy. Maybe he had a reason to be driving faster than he was supposed to. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe his kid was sick, or playing in an important game or maybe he was rushing to a customers place of business to fix something. Maybe he forgot that the company wants him to drive safely or he doesn't care if they do.
The point is we are all inconsistent at times in our behavior. So let's own our shortcoming and strive to do better and be grateful that the Lord works by the grace and mercy principle.
Good stuff! Glad to see you decided to write again!
