Are We There Yet?

Like most parents I recall the days when we would take a long trip with our kids. By the time we hit the end of the block the questions were coming fast and furious. Can we eat at McDonald's; can we stop so I can go to the bathroom; why do I have to sit back here with him? And as with most kids - Are we there yet(the most asked question in the world)? Well, I feel like a kid these days - Are we there yet? I mean to election day. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas. I'm counting the days till election day and all this election stuff will be over(until it starts again which could be as early as November 7). Why you ask? For one thing I'll get my wife back - she is county clerk and has to oversee the election in our county. Long days and grumpy people wear her down. It will be nice when she doesn't have to get up early or stay late at work. This will be her last Presidential election. Thank the Lord! Also, the final debate was last night and I feel like shouting because there won't be any more shouting-at least on a televised debate. Finally, TV programming can get back to it's normal lousy shows. Thank goodness for the baseball and football games. They have been lifesavers. Another thing, I can barely stomach the news shows I usually watch because of all the analysis that takes place. I long for the day when the lead story is a good ole bank robbery or some storm along the coast or some celebrity breakup and not who won/lost a debate. I confess that I didn't watch any of the debates. As I told some friends I know who I am going to vote for and no matter what they say or don't say I'm not going to change my mind so why afflict myself with hours of rhetoric. It's like watching two mountain goats butting heads. It's okay for the first minute but after that I'm ready to move on. I guess there are some folks who really are still undecided(though for the life of me I can't understand why) and need to watch the debates. I hope they have made up their mind by now. Don't get me wrong - I do value our political process but somehow I wish we could get away from this cycle of getting elected and then after getting sworn in starting to campaign for the next election four years away. But that's America and I really wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I thank God daily for this nation and ask him to help me live in such a way as to make it a better place to live in for all of us regardless of who you vote for.
